What we do
Raise aspirations through
resilience & well-being coaching
We work with Children and Young People aged 7 - 24 to build Resilience and Confidence. Through coaching we talk and listen to promote positive mental health, increase body-confidence, improve self-esteem and better manage challenging behaviour.
With extensive classroom experience and working knowledge of whole school issues we, The Talking Tree are conscious of supporting the whole school community in order to improve pupil outcomes both emotionally and academically to enable an ambitious and well supported future.
Here at The Talking Tree we are extremely proud of our specialisms in resilience and confidence building workshops for children of all ages, and 1:1 coaching for children facing challenges which may include exclusion. In addition to this, we provide a range of coaching services and can build programmes specifically tailored to meet school/student needs.
Resilience & Well-being Coaching
As Founder, the inspiration for The Talking Tree came from my time in Tanzania, East Africa where the Baobab tree symbolises how life can thrive despite the most extreme environmental
Here in the UK, our coaches help create that same resilient spirit in our students and in so doing inspire transformational growth. We nurture their strong roots, help them to build a strong core and encourage them to branch out to reach for the sky.
In an increasingly challenging world for
children and young people, our mission is to build resilience, raise aspirations and transform mindsets through specialist coaching.
Hi, I’m Charlotte, Founder of The Talking Tree.
Whilst living in Tanzania I learned to be unapologetically me. As an overweight, outspoken, white woman, I could always be seen and heard, there was no hiding. I realised how important self-confidence was in enabling me to be the best version of myself and to make the most out of my life. I was acutely aware of my privileges as a westerner but culturally as a woman, I was on the backfoot. This not only increased my resilience but brought to the forefront a real passion I have, for women in particular, facing the pressures and judgements that living in any society can bring.
Having worked in a variety of roles in education in the UK and Tanzania, I’ve often been left frustrated by the lack of time available to support students in developing them as emotionally intelligent individuals, and educating them as whole beings. Allowing them the opportunity to talk and express what’s going on in their lives makes a huge difference in terms of their confidence and their resilience.
It was clear from my first experience working in a school setting that I had a natural ability to connect and relate to children in particular, those struggling at school or at home. This sowed the seed which helped me grow my knowledge for providing young people with specialised support.
In 2012, I completed professional training with the prestigious Coaches Training Institute and am now a qualified Co-Active Coach. I began applying many of the coaching tools and techniques, initially working with students with EBD and SEND and then in a whole class/whole classroom setting - first in the UK and later in Tanzania.
The commonality I saw was that students of all ages and from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds simply did not know how to communicate their emotions and thoughts effectively. They did not know who to talk to. Talking to teachers and family members may bring fear of repercussions and talking to their peers often involves fear of judgement.
That’s where coaching comes in...
